Museums
Rotterdam is a modern city with lots of culture and history, which is shown in the high number of museums in the city. At the Museumpark you will finde Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, the Kunsthal, the Natuurhistorisch Museum Rotterdam, the Nederlands Architectuurinstituut, the Maritiem Museum Rotterdam and the Havenmuseum (former Maritiem Buitenmuseum). The Havenmuseum is perfect for an active day out with the kids.
When you don’t want to be inside all day long, go to one of the many bars and restaurants around the Stadhuisplein, the Oude Haven, the Witte de Withstraat or the Schouwburgplein.
Architecture
Architecture is prominently present in Rotterdam. Recent acquisitions are the Markthal and the new central station. In Rotterdam you will also find the highest skyscrapers in The Netherlands, the flat New Orleans with a height of 160 meters and the office building Maastoren with a height of 164 meters.
The Markthal is not only an architectural interesting building, this food market is the place to be when you love food.
When you’re more interested in historical places, you can go to the Delfshaven and find out about the history of the Aelbrechtskolk, Windkorenmolen, the Distilleerketel and the Zakkendragershuisje.
Shopping
You have to go shopping when you’re in Rotterdam. Most shops open around 9.30 AM and close around 6.00 PM. Beursplein, Beurstraverse (also known as the koopgoot) and Lijnbaan are well-known shopping streets with popular shops. Looking for something more exclusive? Then look for shops at the Oude and Nieuwe Binnenweg, Binnenwegplein, Kruiskade and the West-Kruiskade and Witte de Withstraat. Looking for fancier shops, then go to the Van Oldenbarneveltstraat.
Going to Rotterdam on a rainy day? Then you can visit the biggest shopping mall in The Netherlands, Winkelcentrum Zuidplein. It dates back to 1972 and it offers a variety of shops in fashion, beauty, kids and leisure.
Alexandrium Shopping Center isn’t that old, but here you will also find a variety of shops in electronics, living & lifestyle, fashion, sports, fresh food and restaurants.
Boat tour
When you’re in Rotterdam, you must visit one of the biggest harbours in the world. You can discover the harbours during a boat trip. Within an hours you will see the harbours and of course the Kop van Zuid, Wilhelminapier, Erasmusbrug and the Euromast.
Central
Camping & Holiday park De Uitwijk has a central location and you will be in Rotterdam in 45 minutes when you travel by car and take the A4 highway.
